Outpatient Care & Medication-Assisted Treatment

Step 5 of the continuum Weekly sessions · ongoing MAT clinic on site

Recovery maintenance is real medicine. Weekly therapy keeps the skills sharp; psychiatry and medication-assisted treatment keep the biology on your side — for as long as they're helping.

About MAT — and the stigma around it

Medication-assisted treatment is the most studied, most effective intervention for opioid use disorder, and it helps many people with alcohol use disorder too. It is not "replacing one drug with another" — it's stabilizing brain chemistry so therapy can actually work. Our prescribers manage:

Buprenorphine
(Suboxone)
Quiets opioid cravings and withdrawal without a high. Weekly visits at first, monthly as you stabilize.
Naltrexone
(Vivitrol, oral)
Blocks the effect of opioids and blunts alcohol cravings. Available as a monthly injection.
Acamprosate
& others
Supports abstinence from alcohol; we match the medication to your history and goals.

Every MAT client pairs medication with counseling — that combination, not either piece alone, is what the evidence supports.

Weekly therapy session
OUTPATIENT INCLUDES
Weekly individual therapy
Optional weekly recovery group
Psychiatric medication management
MAT prescribing & monitoring
Care coordination with your PCP
How long? As long as it helps. Some people taper off MAT in a year; others stay on for many. Both are recovery.

Stay well, on your schedule

New outpatient and MAT clients are welcome — you don't need to have done other RIONH programs first.
